sam norgard

Karen-Sam Norgard was born in Plainfield, New Jersey, a daughter of Geneva and Arthur Norgard. Her home was filled with the wonderful curtain and wallpaper patterns that grew out of the rich design work of the 1930’s and 1940’s. Norgard spent much of her youth at the family-run flower shop, which had been established by her grandmother. Working at the flower shop, Norgard developed a sense of arrangement, design and craft. She attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Printmaking and Painting, developing technique and skill under the direction of John Stewart and Peter Agostini. Norgard received a full scholarship from the University of Cincinnati, where she completed a Master of Fine Arts in Ceramic Sculpture. She married David L. Golden, they have two children, William and Max.

Norgard’s background and current work reflect a variety of interests and ideas, as she has “never met a medium she didn’t like.” She is just as likely to work on a piece that will fit in your pocket as she is to create work you might walk under. Norgard produces a line of elaborately beaded jewelry that retails in galleries and high-end jewelry stores where she has been dubbed “the Bentley of Beading”. Additionally, her studio life is active with accomplishments in the arena of large-scale painting and installation work. Norgard is passionate about sharing her knowledge of art and design with others and is a dedicated member of the Savannah College of Art and Design faculty where teaches a variety of classes.

Early Bird beading starts at 4:00
